Gallery Visits
Artists create art for others to see, and it's inevitable that another artist will not see that work. Looking at other artists' work is very valuable because you learn a lot their process, their inspiration, and more. All of this helps to improve an artist's ability to create art, which is very beneficial. From these gallery visits, I was able to talk to different artists who were within my city and learn from them.

OIL, a city gallery
Oil: a city gallery is a gallery that primarily features the oil landscape paintings of Hal Koenig. Koenig is inspired by Milwaukee's buildings and various landscapes from which he creates his works with oil on a canvas. Keonig does a lot of artwork with oil and has a very good technique with it. Below are a few of his artworks.
ut of the whole gallery, Marine Plaza stood out to me the most. There is a lot of complex details, the perspective is correct, the hues and shading are great, and it can definitely be seen that this was done with a lot of care. The water shows accurate views of the reflections, and the glass buildings show through to the other side with the colored glass. Marine Plaza is a landscape painting of a part of Milwaukee's downtown and it was done with a single perspective point. Many of Koenig's works are of Milwaukee's urban settings and they are usually done with one or two point perspectives. Prior to becoming an artist, he was an architect and all of his paintings are done by eye.
Koenig also works with a blurred and dreamy type of technique. Two examples are "Zion" and "Challenger Berth." These works seem to be inspired by the impressionist movement and like much of his other works, they are landscapes.

ART UPSTAIRS
Art upstairs is a gallery and studio ran by Patrica Gilman Graham and Lois Buley-Wirth.
Patrcia works primarily with acrylic and pastels.

I find Patrica's artwork with pastels to be very similar to Georgia O'Keefe's. This was the first thing I saw in the gallery and O'Keefe was what I thought about right away. Next, I saw Patricia's acrylic work and I thought of the color field movement.

Lois primarily worked with watercolors. Shes enjoys the softness of the result and it gives a calm and pleasing feeling. I like her work very much. It was detailed and was very easy on the eyes.

These landscapes have a lot of shading, which have been done very nicely. Jim works with oil and acrylic. He says he creates his pieces from memory and a little bit of imagination. I really enjoyed looking at the moon pieces because they gave me a sense of relaxation and calm. Personally I like his acrylic work better than his oil work because the oil seems too vibrant.
Gallery 218
Gallery 218 was a gallery that was composed of several artist with a collection of contemporary art.
Some of these artists include Judith Hooks, and JoAnn O'Hare.

The upper left picture is a photograph called Blue Water by Cecilia Condit. The artists were not in the gallery at the time, so I wasn't able to ask questions. However, I feel as if the picture was taking with the HDR option. I like how it looks so abstract but you can still tell that its a body of water. The next two are made by Judith Hooks, and when I first saw these I thought of the color field movement. The last two are colleges created by Rande Barke and they look very busy, but there is a beauty to the madness. I like all the different colors, but I feel like the meaning to the piece is up to the viewer.
Timothy Cobb Fine Arts
The Timothy Cobb Fine Arts was a gallery I immensely enjoyed. It was small but it had a lot. It was a gallery that had a variety of artworks from a variety of artists. These included sculptures, many types of paintings, still life and more. One artist I noticed was Oliver Benson, who painted with acrylic on panels using many geometric shapes. One particular sculpture that was pointed out was the little dinosaur balancing rocks on his head. The sculpture was very tall, almost twice my height.
